Living
costs in Northern Cyprus are much cheaper than the UK and most of Europe.
There is no rates system at present. The main costs are electricity
(approx. £15 monthly per house for a couple), water (£5 monthly) and an
annual council tax is usually less than £50. Central heating is becoming
more and more popular in North Cyprus with new build properties and is
usually run on gas, oil or diesel. Most cookers are run on LPG gas and/or
electricity.
Locally produced products or those produced in Turkey
are generally cheaper than their European counterparts. However, goods
imported from Europe tend to tend to be higher in price than their country
of origin. Cigarettes and alcohol are very cheap.
