North Cyprus Tourism
Ads ban on London Transport ruled unlawful
An earlier ban by
the London Transport Authority on adverts posted on buses, tubes,
trains and other sites advertising tourism in North Cyprus was ruled
unlawful and irrational by Britain’s Supreme Court.
Speaking
at a press conference following the outcome, Minister of Economy and
Tourism Kemal Deniz said that the decision to lift the ban on
posters advertising tourism in North Cyprus was partly the result of
the changing attitude of the international community towards the
Turkish Cypriot people.
Explaining that the ban was put into
force after a complaint field by Brian Coleman-the chairman of the
Greater London Assembly on grounds that the advertisements for
Northern Cyprus caused wide-spread offence to some members of the
public, Mr, Deniz said that the government had decided to take the
London Transport Authority to court to reverse the decision as it
was a violation of the basic right to freedom of expression.
Advisers to US Congressmen visit North Cyprus A delegation
of 7 advisers to US Congressmen arrived at Ercan Airport last month
as guest of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry.
Welcoming the delegation, the Chamber President Salih Tunar
said the American delegation was invited to North Cyprus to provide
first hand information on the Cyprus issue, and - for them - to get
a chance of better understanding the realities about Cyprus, and
grasping "what the Cyprus problem is
about".
